North West France
Brittany and Normandy have been top destinations for Brits for quite some time due to the close proximity, rich heritage, gastronomy, wine and, of course, the Calvados. The area also provides for very good value for money in terms of both housing and general cost of living.
In Brittany, St Malo and Mont-St-Michael are the premium areas but still very reasonable compared to other parts of France.
The vibrant city of Rennes is also very popular. The charming old town area is a cultural hotspot of Brittany. The city has an old and new town areas which are separated by the Vilane River.
Elsewhere, villages along the Cote Sauvage and Cote d’Armor are also popular.
For Normandy, Rouen is the premium town with Bayeux also popular. There are a sprinkling of old villages across Calvados which also provide interest.
The following villages in Brittany are in the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France; Moncontour, Finistère, Le Faou, Île-de-Sein,
Locronan, Saint-Suliac and Rochefort-en-Terre. In Normandy, we have Beuvron-en-Auge, Barfleur, Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei, Le Bec-Hellouin and Lyons-la-Forêt.
