Obviously Paris dominates this area as the city of choice where over 20,000 Brits live although most of these are working professionals. Although relatively expensive by French standards, it is more affordable than London. The wealth tax in France is resulting in a soft market in Paris at present and property price inflation remains subdued.
Paris is in the Île-de-France region which was recently voted the happiest place to live in France by Globeco.
The remainder of the central area covers a massive part of France and tends to be less popular given the absence of coastline and the Alps. However, if you love rolling open countryside, national parks, chateaux plus great cheese and wine regions, then this could be the place for you. Given the relative level of popularity, prices do tend to be a lot more attractive.

The capital of the region is Clermont-Ferrand but if you are looking for something a little more picturesque there are ten spa towns of which Vichy is the most famous along with eleven Plus Beaux Villages, of which, Lavaudieu is popular.
