France

Some would argue that France is the most beautiful country in Europe, if not the world. Add in the culture, history, romance, gastronomy, wonderful wine, a lovely climate, good quality of life and easy access, it is easy to see why the Brits love this part of the world. Perhaps the relationship is more like one you’d find in competitive siblings though. Despite the tensions and grudging respect, it is impossible not to be intrigued and drawn-in by the rich cultural and social differences along with our shared history, perspectives and love of life. And of course, there is that Gallic charm and certain ’je ne sais quoi’. These are some of the reasons why France continues to be the number one global tourist destination.

Having been in the property doldrums for much of the last decade, France is seeing modest shoots of recovery in prices particularly in coastal areas of the South and South-West. This is being driven by a return in confidence by the domestic market and a return of overseas investors over 2015. This is partly due to renewed economic performance in France and Europe combined with attractive mortgage and exchange rates.  The good news for UK property hunters is that prices still have some way to hit their 2007/8 peaks.

Popular Destinations

Many UK investors are attracted to the coastal regions along the Mediterranean in the South and South East as well as the Atlantic in the South West.

Provence, Languedoc, Midi-Pyrénées, Aquitaine and Poitou-Charentes are all sought after regions.

Paris and the Île-de-France region are a favourite as well as north-west France due its proximity and easy access to the UK.

Eastern France tends to be not so favoured with the Brits except those seeking Alpine retreats and winter-sports.
